I created Surfing Point Dume after a surfing trip along California's Pacific Coast Highway. The scene is based on photographs I took while exploring the coastline, capturing that feeling of freedom that comes with life on the road - surfboards strapped to the roof, endless blue skies and the ocean never far away.
I wanted the piece to evoke the excitement of a journey and the anticipation of what might be waiting around the next bend. The towering cacti, sun-bleached landscape and luminous turquoise sky all reflect my love of California's unique blend of wild nature, modernist architecture and laid-back coastal culture.
It's a painting about adventure, possibility and the simple joy of being somewhere new.
