Last time I was in California I took a road trip and toured Palm Springs. I love the modernism vibe and under neath a Californian sun all the colours seem so vibrant.

In Palm Springs I took enough pictures to last a lifetime of inspiration but one pool and space really stood out for me to paint. It was at the end of my tour and ai loved the flower shape pool.

Looking accross it I imagined pairing the soace with a bight orange gradient filled sky and the tall swaying Palm trees adding structure to the space.

The figuration within the painting comes from vintage as well as modern photographs that I have taken. I one old image I found a group of figures sitting poolside with bright red Lobsters staring out as part of platter.

I wanted to use this element as it felt both unexpected and natural in the painting and brought and exciting detail for the eye in this corner of the painting.

My paintings are made using large brushstrokes on canvas. The texture of the paint us visible on the surface of the canvas. It is painted using a combination of oil and acrylic paint which gives it extreme vibrancyband shine in some areas. In some areas of the paint the oil pigment is fluorescent which gives intense strong colour.
