BLACK SWAN IN VENICE

‘Black Swan, Venice is painted using oil and acrylic on canvas. It is a medium sized painting on an artist’s high quality canvas stretcher which is warp resistant.

The painting is made using large brushstrokes and the texture of the paint and brush marks are visible on the surface of the canvas. It is painted using a combination of oil and acrylic paint which gives it extreme vibrancy and shine in some areas.

Following a trip to LA last September (a lifelong dream!!) to exhibit works at the Other Art Fair, I took a walking tour through Venice. I wasn’t sure what it was going to be like as I was my first trip and I had only ever seen it in photographs, which I had looked at time and time again to draw inspiration for my work. The colours found in old fifties and sixties photographs really inspired my palette and worked so well with my love of colour.

As I walked through the canals I spotted these incredible pedals, parked up next to the boats. A shiny black swan and on the other side of the canal a Bright Pink flamingo. They capture everything I love, quirky kitschy fun. They were parked up near this beautiful house with white board and a vibrant summer light. I had to make this painting even though there aren’t any figures in it.
