Oil and acrylic on canvas

This is one of my favourite paintings I’ve created this year. It’s a piece filled with both personal symbolism and the radiant energy of transformation.

Inspired by The Sun tarot card, this work reimagines its imagery in my own world. Traditionally, the card depicts a naked child riding a white horse as a symbol of innocence, vitality, and joy. In my painting, the child becomes a woman swimming - a figure immersed in life’s flow - while the horse bends to drink from the pool, its presence pure and luminous. The white horse here is also a counterpoint to the horse in The Death Card instead of endings, it embodies new life, strength, and positive change.

The palette is almost iridescent - a surreal blend of saturated pinks, glowing oranges, deep greens and luminous aquas. These colours, along with the dreamlike desert palms and modernist architecture, pulse with the life force that The Sun radiates: joy, energy, new eras, and a sense of harmony with the self.

There are traces of Surrealism in this piece too, drawn from my visit to Dalí’s home in Portlligat. Just as Dalí used surrealism to bring dreams into reality, here I wanted to create a world where symbolism, memory, and imagination meet in technicolour.

For me, The Sun is about stepping into light after shadow - about joy, renewal, and the pure beauty of being alive.
