Route 66 was such a joy to paint. I’ve always loved the kitsch and surreal landmarks along this legendary highway, and these roadside dinosaurs felt like the perfect subject. There’s something so playful about them towering over the forecourt, part absurd, part magical.
 
I kept the horizon low to give the sky room to breathe, and I love how the expanse of colour balances the weight of the scene below. For me, this painting is about nostalgia, freedom, and the wonder of the open road, but also about transforming something familiar into a dreamlike, cinematic moment.
