This painting was created for my exhibition Endless Summer at Saltdean Lido, and it’s a joyful nod to the golden era of British seaside holidays when architecture, optimism, and leisure all came together with a little extra flair.
 
Butlins features a beautiful Art Deco Building, painted in that signature soft Butlins yellow that I’ve always loved. I was drawn to the distinctive curves, the windows, and the way these buildings were designed to feel glamorous and welcoming all at once. Against a turquoise sky, the structure feels like it’s glowing with possibility.
 
The scene is surrounded by classic cars - including a Beetle, which holds a special place in my heart as it was my first car. In the foreground, I’ve added in a gardener tending to the lawns, and off to the side, the fountain from the original Butlins Brighton. These details that felt important in capturing the charm and warmth of these carefully curated holiday spaces.
 
This painting is a love letter to Butlins and the way places stay with us, not just in how they looked, but in how they made us feel.
