THE INVENTION OF FANCY

‘The Invention of Fancy’ is the theme that I will be exploring in this large group of original works which have been specifically created for this space. And I hope will complement the work of Tanya Gomez alongside.

Art curator Vanessa Brady founded VJB Arts in 2007. The consultancy was started to help emerging artists get a foothold in the industry by working with corporate businesses to sponsor free exhibitions in prime London locations.

I’m thrilled to have been selected alongside sculptor Tanya Gomez to exhibit work in the large foyer space at Gresham Street in the City of London.

‘The Invention of Fancy’ is the theme that I will be exploring in this large group of original works which have been specifically created for this space. And I hope will complement the work of Tanya Gomez alongside.

Gomez works in porcelain, and uses a range of approaches in my throwing to create forms that will capture qualities of fluidity, movement and provide a sense of space.

“It is through a process of energetic making and rigorous selection I have learnt to observe how the clay works and find new ways to go forward. The throwing is dynamic and cutting and assembling make the forms. I make these works conscious of natural phenomena, dramatic landscapes and the diverse qualities of the sea. I spent five years working on private yachts travelling the globe absorbing colour, shape and diverse cultures. I have also always lived by the sea and it is where I currently have a studio. All of these inspire my work.”

The work will be available to view within the space from the beginning of June until September 2023.
