'The Pleasure Garden' is painted using oil and acrylic on canvas. It is a large painting on an artists high quality Windsor and Newton stretcher which is warp resistant.

The painting is made using large brushstrokes and the texture of the paint and brushmarks are visible on the surface of the canvas. You can see underpainting through the oil paint on ome areas of the canvas.

The work is inspired by my love of places of pleasure and gardens. The painting is based on several different locations. The painting is designed first using a collage where I map out my composition and characters. I then start working on the canvas and build the paint up using layer upon layer in order to keep the paint as fresh as possible.

This painting depicts a large archway within a walled garden. Within the garden are some acrobats and circus performers. In the top left hand side of the painting are birds flying accross the surface of the canvas. I want to explore colour, mood, magic and imagination in my work.
